CETAMADA is pleased to announce the special volunteer program for helpers already based in Madagascar. From June 15th to September 1st 2011 you can register for 4 weeks magnificent experience on whale watching research and coastal community development.
No prior experience is necessary and training will be provided. The Internship is open to students and staff of recognized institutions as well as members of the General Public.
Skills:
- No sea sickness
- Motivated
- Languages (French, English, Malagasy, Italian), at least 2 languages
- Organize
- Volunteers are required mainly to conduct boat-based observations of the whales as they pass our study site
Volunteers should:
- Commit to a minimum of 4 weeks.
- Be available to work daily for 10 to 12 hours a day and must be available for all boat trips.
- Have strong sense of responsibility, work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to admit mistakes.
- Produce high quality research efforts and exhibit strong interpersonal skills.
**Main Duties include: data entry, learning all research protocols, analyze journal articles, cropping – sorting and classifying photo-id images, eco-guiding in boat trips, briefings for tourists, environmental education activities for the local community, support for the artisan workshop and boat based field research.
**Secondary Duties involve: assisting with educational and practical formation activities.
Field days: Interns must be able to spend many hours on the water in sometimes-extreme seasonal conditions. Field days typically exceed eight hours and occur once or twice a week.

CetaMada will provide lodge and food during the volunteering time, 4 day training and all equipment needed for the field.
A unique fee of 200 Euros is required to cover the expenses of the eco-volunteer kit (rain coat, T-shirts short and long sleeves and other material to support the development of volunteers during their duties).
